MVAR Community Foundation Scholarship Application

The MVAR Community Scholarship supports students who are committed to strengthening their communities through service, leadership, and advocacy. This scholarship recognizes graduating high school seniors and recent graduates from Marion, Polk, and Linn counties who demonstrate a passion for addressing challenges related to affordable housing, homelessness, and support for disadvantaged children and families. Through this scholarship, MVAR seeks to invest in future leaders who are dedicated to improving community pride, livability, and opportunity for all.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship Amount: Up to $1,500 per applicant.
  • Usage of Funds: Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, and other educational expenses only.

Timeline

  • Application Deadline: June 1, 2026
  • Notification of Recipients: No later than June 15, 2026.
  • Award Ceremony: To be held at an MVAR General Membership meeting.

Applicant Information

Eligibility Requirements

I am planning to attend an accredited college, university, or program in Fall 2026.

I am a current high school student or 2024-25 graduate from Marion, Polk, or Linn counties. 

Scholarship Criteria - Mission Alignment

Provide examples that demonstrate your commitment to improving your community, specifically in areas related to affordable housing, homelessness, or support for disadvantaged children and families. (250 words)

Describe any volunteer or work experiences with organizations focused on housing, social services, or community development. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant experience. (250 words)

Describe your educational and career goals, including how they align with MVARCF's mission: breaking the cycle of homelessness, supporting affordable housing, aiding disadvantaged children and families, and enhancing community pride and livability. (250 words)

Personal Statement

Please submit a personal statement video (minimum 2 min) addressing the following:

  • Your volunteer and community experiences.
  • How this scholarship will help you achieve your educational and community service goals.
  • Your ideas for contributing to community pride and livability.

Letters of Recommendation

Provide 1-2 letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your character, community involvement, and commitment to helping others. Letters may be from teachers, community leaders, or other individuals who can attest to your community contributions.
